Manufacture of Cleaning and Sanitizing Chemicals for the Food Industry

The client was operating a large modern facility specially designed for the manufacture of his products which were generally non-flammable liquids. An opportunity arose for new products involving the use of flammable liquids as raw materials. One section of his mixing equipment had been specified with flameproof motors, however instrumentation and power distribution in this area were only suitable for non-hazardous atmospheres.

Richard Hall & Associates were engaged to carry out a review of this manufacturing area and develop concept proposals for controlling flammable atmospheres in the area.

Several concepts were developed however, given the complexity of the area, none were cost effective. As a result a proposal was developed to establish a separate manufacturing area using existing equipment located such that hazardous areas did not impact on the remainder of the site operations.
